The Guggenheim museum is the
home to one of the finest collections of contemporary and modern
art in the world.

Established over sixty years ago by Solomon
R. Guggenheim (a well-known philanthropist) with the help of
Hilla Rebay, an artist of the time and advisor to Guggenheim,
it was originally housed in what had been a showroom for automobiles
on East 45th Street. The current building, designed by Frank
Lloyd Wright, is designated as a New York City landmark. Like
Guggenheim, Wright was a visionary and broke tradition by designing
and building a structure that, in and of itself, is a magnificent
work of art. Wright called the museum a "temple of spirit" whose
long curving rooms provide the perfect space and balance to
observe, consider and appreciate the talent and message of
each of the artists.

The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum is among Wright's most famous creations,
and is correctly considered one of the world's finest examples
of Twentieth Century architecture.
