New York airports double their protection
New York airports will soon get extra protection, which is already used in Baghdad, Israel and Boston. The protection will include fiber optics, radar, infrared imaging, motion detectors and surveillance cameras – so it is now called "invisible fencing". The system will cost $138 million – the sum paid by Port Authority, although it will likely get some degree of federal aid, and it’s aim is to pump up existing security features at local airports. Over the next two years, the Port Authority said it will install a comprehensive new security system at Newark, Kennedy, LaGuardia and Teterboro airports.
