Plans to built Yankee Stadium approved
Wednesday April 5 New York Council voted to approve a design for a new $800 million Yankee Stadium that includes the takeover of a nearby city park and a street. Despite the fact that Bronx community is strongly opposed to the idea of a new park, next week council's finance committee is expected to approve it’s bonds to pay for the construction, which will open in 2009. The new stadium will be built on the place of a McCombs Dam Park, but neighbours say they do not agree with the plans to be deprived of the only parkland in the area. However, Bronx Borough President Adolfo Carrion said the plan would actually give the community an additional two acres of park space, including four baseball fields, a soccer field and a running track.
