El Museo del Barrio to be expanded
The New York city only museum dedicated to the art and culture of Puerto Rico, the Caribbean and Latin America announced it’s plans for an expansion along Manhattan's Museum Mile. These days the museum founded in 1969 by a group of Puerto Rican educators, artists, parents and community activists in East Harlem's El Barrio, extends on the area from 96th Street to the Harlem River and from Fifth Avenue to the East River. But soon it will boast new glass facade, a renovated and redesigned courtyard, improved lobby space and signage, an expanded museum shop, upgraded elevators, and new restrooms and coat-check facilities. The renovation will be lead by New York-based architects Gruzen Samton LLP and is expected to be completed in spring 2007
